Shot over the span of four years, director Andrea Arnold and her film crew document the daily life of a dairy cow named Luma. Almost completely void of dialogue, music and moos fill the air as Luma experiences the joys and hardships of farm living. Shot predominately at Luma’s eye-level, viewers are encouraged to engage with her on a level beyond empathy. Themes of motherhood and loss permeate, while the resonances and disconnects of a cross-species engagement comes to the fore.
